ENGAGEMENT

There are relationships you get to witness in life that make you marvel at how solid a base of love holds them together, how many journeys brought them to where they are today - watching Raghavi’s friends and cousins step up and run the show for this stunner of an engagement felt just like that!

One of them had written to us, discussed, coordinated, and made transactions to book us, and we got to speak directly to Raghavi herself only 3 days prior to the engagement. We reached Dakshinchitra, the venue for the day, with a little apprehension of what was to come. Our first surprise was running into Akash, Sam, and Mahesh Anna from Vizha Medai, setting up the place for the evening. It was truly a “Hey, Sagar!” moment! 😆

The first thing that stole my heart was the dhaavani that Raghavi had chosen to wear for the start of the event. I complimented her, and what flowed in our conversations from there was just warm exuberance. Her excitement was palpable, and her energy quite infectious, it was impossible to shoot without a constant smile on the face.

The ceremony was conducted by a retired Tamil professor, their mothers gave them their garlands and engagement attire, the guests were treated to various forms of delightful traditional Tamil dance performances, and an air of pure joy hung about the place the entire time. It was such a treat to watch their families not just sit tight and nod their heads at the show, but eagerly whistle, cheer, and learn to dance along the incredibly talented performers. What a way to celebrate the coming together of two people in love!

And speaking of the two people in love - what we got to bear witness to and document is the beautiful, tender kind of love that Raghavi and Deepak share; the kind that shone in their eyes and came as a moving reminder in not just their words, but in how their shoulders knew safety and love, leaning in to the other, their hands gently holding the others’ ever so often, and the embraces that came aplenty both in joyous and emotionally moving moments.

It is the 20th of August, 2024 today - their 1st wedding anniversary. Today, we begin sharing what we shot at their engagement, and later this week, their wedding, as a humble attempt to freeze in time what we saw and experienced.
